What is Instinct?

The short answer
Instinct is a personal AI assistant that lives in the messaging apps you already use. You text it or call it - on WhatsApp, iMessage, SMS or by phone - and it carries out real tasks: booking, ordering, scheduling, researching, following up. There is no new app to learn. Its own pitch: "no new interfaces - it can use a phone and computer in the same way that you do."
Behind the chat, Instinct works on a cloud computer of its own and uses the accounts you choose to connect - email, calendar, Google Workspace, Slack and more. It reports back in the same thread.
Who makes it
Instinct is built by Spear Street Technology, Inc., a San Francisco company doing business as Instinct. The founder is Noah Shinn, previously a research scientist at Sierra. The company registered in California in April 2026, launched invite-only in August 2026, and was valued at $10 billion after a $1 billion Series C in late September 2026 (Reuters named Sequoia, Benchmark and Coatue as investors).
Not that Instinct
Three other things share the name. This site is about the personal AI assistant at instinct.com - not the Garmin Instinct watch, not Instinct pet food, and not the sales-coaching product at getinstinct.io.
Where it stands today
- Access is invite-only: an invitation from a current user, or approval from the waitlist.
- It is free during the invite-only period, founder Noah Shinn has said. No public price yet.
- New features land fast: phone calls and group chats arrived in the past few weeks.
